Short answer: yes, you can play eFootball without internet, but only part of it. The offline part is called Exhibition, and some menus call the same thing Trial Match. In Exhibition you pick a real club or national team and play a full match against the computer, no connection needed. Dream Team, the eFootball League, events and online matches are a different story. Those live on Konami's servers and stop working the moment your connection drops. This guide shows you exactly what works offline, what does not, and how to set it up on your phone, console or PC before you lose signal.

Quick facts

  • Game: eFootball, made by Konami. It is the new name for the old PES (Pro Evolution Soccer) series.
  • Price: free to play on every platform, with optional in-game purchases if you want Coins.
  • Platforms: Android, iOS, PlayStation, Xbox and PC through Steam.
  • Offline mode: Exhibition (Trial Match), against the AI, with authentic club and national squads.
  • Needs internet: Dream Team, eFootball League, Tour and Challenge Events, Co-op, online Friend Match, signing players and login rewards.
  • Official download: only from Konami and the normal app stores. There is no official offline APK. Our download page points you to Konami's official eFootball page and nothing else.

What works offline

Exhibition is the mode Konami built for casual offline play, and it is better than most people expect. You get the real licensed squads, the same stadiums and the same match engine you use online. Pick Manchester United against Real Madrid, set the match to ten minutes, and play. The computer's difficulty goes from Beginner all the way up to Legend, so the same mode works for a first-week player and for someone who has played PES for years.

Training works offline too. You can practise free kicks, corners and penalties against no pressure, or run a full practice match while you learn a new formation. Everything on this side of the game is saved on your device, so a train journey, a flight or a power cut does not stop you playing. Our guide to Exhibition and Trial Match settings walks through the difficulty and match-length choices that make offline games feel right.

What needs internet

Anything tied to your own squad needs a connection. Dream Team is stored on Konami's servers, so you cannot open your team, sign players or play Dream Team matches offline. The eFootball League is a ranked online competition, so that is online only. Tour Events and Challenge Events check in with the server, Co-op and online Friend Match obviously need other players, and login rewards, roster updates and new player lists only arrive when you are connected. If a menu asks you to log in or sits on a loading screen with the network icon spinning, that is the game telling you it wants the server.

How to play offline on mobile

The phone version has one quirk you need to know about. The app usually wants a quick word with Konami's servers when it starts, to check your data and pull any updates. So the trick is to do the online part once, properly, while you still have signal. The full walkthrough is in our post on how to play eFootball offline on mobile, step by step. The short version:

  1. Install the official eFootball app from Google Play or the App Store. Only the official app.
  2. Open it while you are online and finish the tutorial. Let every data update download completely.
  3. Go into Exhibition once and start a match, so the game files settle on your phone.
  4. Turn on airplane mode, reopen the game and go straight to Exhibition.
  5. If the app stops at the server check and will not let you in, turn the connection back on for a few seconds, let it open, then switch airplane mode on again once you are at the main menu.

That last step is not a fault with your phone. It is how the official app behaves, and anyone who tells you their version never checks in is usually running a modified build, which brings its own problems.

How to play offline on console and PC

Console and PC are simpler. Install the game from the PlayStation Store, the Microsoft Store or Steam while you are online, launch it once and let it update, then disconnect the machine or put it in offline mode. Open Exhibition, choose your teams and play. On Steam you can use the "Go Offline" option in the Steam menu, and eFootball will still start and let you into offline matches. Just remember that anything you earn in offline matches stays in that mode. It does not add players or points to your Dream Team, because that account lives online.

About "eFootball offline APK" downloads

Search for eFootball offline and you will see plenty of sites offering a special offline APK. Be careful here. Konami has never released an official offline APK. Those files are modified or old PES-era builds put together by strangers, and they are a common way to spread malware. They can also get your Konami account banned if you sign in with one. We wrote a full post on why unofficial eFootball offline APKs are risky and what to do instead. The safe route is boring but simple: official app, Exhibition mode, airplane mode. That is real offline play with no gamble attached.

Getting more out of offline play

Offline matches are the best practice ground you have. There is no lag, no opponent rushing you, and you can pause whenever you like. Start on Regular or Professional difficulty and raise it when you win two games in a row. Set match length to 10 or 15 minutes so you get time to build attacks instead of chasing the clock. Use training mode for set pieces: twenty free kicks from the same spot teaches you more than five online matches. And because none of this uses data, offline play costs you nothing on a metered connection. Play a full match on a flight and your data bill will never know.

Offline vs online, side by side

Offline gives you Exhibition and training with real teams against the computer, works anywhere, uses no data, and nothing carries into your account. Online gives you Dream Team, leagues, events and real opponents, needs a steady connection, uses data, and everything you earn counts. Most players end up using both: offline to learn and relax, online when they want their own squad and a real test. Neither one replaces the other.

Questions people ask

Is eFootball fully offline? No. Exhibition and training work offline. Dream Team, the League, events and online matches need internet.

Can I play Dream Team offline? No. Your Dream Team is stored on Konami's servers, so the game has to connect before it can show or use your squad.

Does the mobile app need internet to start? Usually yes, briefly. It checks in with the server at launch. Finish your updates while online, then switch to airplane mode once the game is open.

Is there an official eFootball offline APK? No. Konami does not make one. The official app from Google Play or the App Store is the only safe copy, and our disclaimer page explains what this site is and is not.

Can two people play offline on one console? Yes, on console you can play a local Exhibition match with a second controller, the old couch way, no connection needed.

Do offline matches use mobile data? No. Once you are in airplane mode, an Exhibition match uses no data at all.

That is the whole picture. Set the game up once while you have signal, keep Exhibition as your offline home, and leave the unofficial APK sites alone. You will get your football anywhere, and your account and your phone stay safe while you do it.
